September is now National Tortilla Month following a resolution sponsored by U.S. Congressman Devin Nunes, a member of the House of Representatives from California's District 21. The Tortilla Industry Association (TIA) encourages tortilla suppliers to add this recognition to their advertising.
The American Bakers Association (ABA), Washington, D.C., announced Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) will be the keynote dinner speaker at the ABA and Allied Trades of the Baking Industry joint board of directors meeting on Oct. 13 in Dallas. Cornyn will provide his perspective on key issues including the Conservation Reserve Program, the food versus fuel debate and his outlook on November elections.
Enjoy Life® Foods, Schiller Park, Ill., was named to the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing, privately-held businesses in the United States for the second consecutive year. The 2008 list is Inc. magazine's 27th. Enjoy Life, which makes allergy-friendly and gluten-free foods, ranked 371 with a three-year revenue growth of 805 percent, and was one of only 13 companies in the Food & Beverage category to make the list.
Briess Malt & Ingredients Co., Chilton, Wis. reopened its second malthouse in Waterloo, Wis., which had been sitting idle for three years because supply outpaced demand for malt used in beer. The malthouse was reopened as the company noticed an upward shift in the supply and demand for malt. Briess supplies malt extracts to the baking industry.
