The American Bakers Association (ABA) has launched BakersEnrighAmerica.org, a website that showcases the economic impact of the baking industry. The site includes job, wage and tax data at the national and state level, as well as by congressional district.

“This data will allow ABA to show policymakers in black and white how vital our industry is to the economy,” Rob MacKie, president and CEO of the ABA, said in a press release. “The baking industry is one of the last stable manufacturing industries in the United States. We directly employ more than 633,000 people and each year, our industry accounts for more than $31 billion in wages and $38 billion in taxes.”

The research and data, compiled by John Dunham & Associates, define the baking industry as the production, importation/wholesaling, and retailing of baked goods, including breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, crackers and tortillas. Pre-prepared dough manufacturers also are included in the definition on the industry. The data measures the number of jobs in this sector, the wages paid to employees, the value added and total output.
