Greyston Bakery, Yonkers, N.Y., announced a breakthrough in sifting techniques with the use of a new circular vibratory sifter. Commissioned to create quarter-in. brownie chunks for a new ice cream product, the bakery discovered its traditional screener couldn’t keep up with the demand of 20-hour production days. Greyston replaced its house-built screener with a 24-in.-diameter circular vibratory screener by Kason Corp. The new system easily sifts 1-in. by 1-in. brownie pieces, cuts them into the required quarter-in. size and removes oversized chunks, all while operating at the desired production speed.

“It has no problem keeping up, and we have room to ramp up volume without going to an additional deck or a larger unit,” said plant engineer Vincent Lombardo.
