Il Fornaio buys Corner Bakery
Brinker had put the bakery cafe chain up for sale in August. Corner Bakery is located in eight states and Washington D.C., but a large number of its stores are located in the Chicago area where the chain began. Details of the deal will not be disclosed until the sale is final, but the purchase should more than double Il Fornaio's annual revenue, according to the San Francisco Business Times.
Il Fornaio runs 23 Italian restaurants in California, Washington, Denver and Las Vegas and has three production bakeries. The company plans to open one or two Il Fornaio restaurants and as many as 10 Corner Bakeries a year, beginning in California and other West Coast markets.
