Board of directors restructures BISSC
The Baking Industry Sanitation Standards Committee(BISSC) passed
the BISSC certification process to the American Institute of Baking
(AIB), which will continue the announcement and standards setting
review process of the ANSI/BISSC Z50.2 Standard.
The board of directors reached a unanimous decision to restructure
BISSC at a March 2006 meeting. An effort to revitalize the
certification program as well as recent changes spurred the
decision. The changes included making BISSC standards a registered
ANSI Standard; maintaining that the standard is the Z50 committee;
having trained, registered individuals review equipment before
certification beginning in January 2007; and resolving to offer
third party verification inspection.
An assigned committee, composed of the presidents from the five
supporting organizations: AIB, American Society of Baking (ASB),
BEMA (The Baking Industry Suppliers Association), Biscuit and
Cracker Manufacturers’ Association (BCMA), American
Bakers’ Association (ABA), and the BISSC chairman and
co-chairman; completed the reorganization process by the end of
2006. The reorganization is as follows:
ASB, the organization that maintains the Z50.1 safety standards
will also maintain the Z50.2 sanitation (BISSC) standard. AIB will
manage and operate BISSC and administer the registration, marketing
and training for BISSC certification. The current board of
directors was dissolved.
AIB will organize an advisory committee to consult and assist with
various BISSC matters.
These changes are intended to continue the viability of BISSC and
its ability to add value to the baking and equipment manufacturing
industries.
