Newmans Own Organics presents new snacks
Newman’s Own®
Organics, Aptos, Calif., introduced two new products. Hermits, an
old-fashioned soft cookie, and gluten-free Soy Crisps.
Available in original, cinnamon and ginger, Hermits 12-pack cookies
retail for $4.29. “Hermits were a family favorite when I was
growing up,” said Nell Newman, co-founder and president of
the company. The cookie is said to have originated in Colonial New
England. “One theory is that hermits were named for their
long keeping qualities–better when hidden away like a hermit
for several days,” Newman said.
The new Soy Crisps are gluten-free, and made with organic soy and
organic rice. The Crisps are available in four varieties: cinnamon
sugar, white cheddar, lightly salted and barbecue, and contain 7 to
9 grams of protein, depending on the variety. A 3.3-oz. bag retails
for $2.99.
“The Crisps can be used for more than the expected
snack,” Newman said. “Use the White Cheddar to add some
crunch to tuna fish. If you put them in the food processor for
several minutes to create crumbs, they can be used as a breading
for baked chicken, or as a flavorful replacement for breadcrumbs in
meatballs or meatloaf. Kids love to float them in soup. It’s
fun to experiment with different ways to use them.”
