Bethel Bakery uses promotion power to celebrate 50th

Celebrating “50 Years of Good Taste,” Bethel Bakery in Bethel Park, Pa., is promoting its staying power this year through anniversary parties, billboards and newsletters. Founded in 1955 by Morris Walsh, the family-run bakery is in its second generation of ownership led by John Walsh, president.
The bakery plans a 50th Anniversary Customer Celebration Week in September when it will offer product promotions, prize drawings and other events, such as selling 50 loaves of bread for 29 cents, its price in 1955.
To promote its anniversary week, Bethel is participating in its community picnic this month, and will offer airbrush tattoos and cookie decorating for children, a cake decorating demonstration by Walsh’s 16-year-old daughter and 50th anniversary t-shirts.
The full-line retail bakery also mails customers a quarterly newsletter, which is posted on its Web site, www.bethelbakery.com. If the mail or the computer does not reach customers, Bethel is designing an anniversary billboard to reach them in their cars as well.
