Investment firms acquire Awrey's
Awrey Bakeries, Livonia, Mich., was recently acquired by two investment firms, Hilco Equity Management of Northbrook, Ill., and Monomoy of New York City. Alden Knowles, recently named Awrey's chief executive officer, will lead the new management team. Knowles has experience in the baking industry with Hazelwood Farms and Quaker Oats.
Awrey Bakeries had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February this year. The wholesale bakery produces a full line of products, including pastries, cakes, muffins, donuts and brownies, for retail sale and for in-store bakeries.
