Flowers Foods makes offer for Royal Cake

Flowers Foods, Thomasville, Ga., made a $10 million offer to acquire Royal Cake Co., a Winston-Salem, N.C.-based bakery operating in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The contract is subject to approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

Flowers Foods made the bid for Royal Cake to increase its snack cake production capacity. Royal Cake employs about 190 people and produces cookies, cereal bars and cream-filled cakes under the Royal, Bakers Best and private label brands.
