Hamelman receives the 2005 Golden Baguette Award
“Jeffrey has
been an integral part of education in the artisan baking community
since The Guild’s inception,” said Gina Renée
Piccolino, executive director of the guild. “He has
contributed in so many different areas. We exist and are able to be
a force within our industry because of what people like Jeffrey do
for us.”
Hamelman has baked professionally for nearly years. He has owned his own bakery, and served as a baking and pastry instructor at several culinary schools. He currently is bakery director at King Arthur where he teaches professional classes for one week each month and bakes for the other three.
In 1996, he served as the captain of the guild’s Baking Team USA, which competed at the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie (World Cup of Baking). Hamelman became the 76th Certified Master Baker in the United States in 1998. He is the author of Bread: A Baker’s Book of Techniques and Recipes, and won the 2005 International Association of Culinary Professionals’ Julia Child Award for the best cookbook by a first-time author.
