Baker Boy unveiled an updated brand identity and website.  The site offers product information and resources for Baker Boy’s core market segments, as well as formulas, application ideas and industry insights for each customer segment.

Natural Products Inc., Grinnell, Iowa, announced the completion of a new soy roasting and milling factory. It will triple NPI’s production of roasted full-fat soy ingredients and enable the company to expand its product offering. The new factory includes a state-of-the-art sifting line that can produce uniformly sized sifted grits and meal suitable for bakery applications.

The RBA, the ABA and BEMA announced the formation of a new industry event, All Things Baking, to be held Oct. 2-4, 2011, at Chicago’s Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center. The event will be held in lieu of the American Retail Bakery Exposition and will take place during non-IBIE years. 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has sequenced the cacao genome in an attempt to sustain the supply of high-quality cocoa. The department also hopes the advancement will help researchers better understand the plant’s genetic makeup, traits and viability.

Sara Lee Corp., Downers Grove, Ill., rejected an unsolicited $12 billion takeover offer from Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR & Co.) Sara Lee’s foodservice division makes up 20 percent of the revenue for U.S. Foodservice, a company co-owned by KKR.
