Flowers Foods introduces new breads and snack cakes

Flowers Bakeries is shaking up the bakery aisle by putting new twists on some of consumers’ favorite breads and snack cakes. Nature’s Own Whitewheat and Cobblestone Mill are offering up new items in different shapes and sizes, while Blue Bird and Mrs. Freshley’s treats have amped up the chocolate profile of some of their snacks with HERSHEY’S® cocoa and chocolate chips.

“These exciting new products scored high during consumer testing,” said Janice Anderson, Flowers’ vice president of marketing. “With our Whitewheat Sandwich Rounds and smaller-sized Cobblestone Mill loaf, we’re giving consumers what they’ve been asking for. Adding the great taste of HERSHEY’S® chocolate and its strong brand recognition to three delicious snack items brings something new and fun to our cake line-up.”

Nature’s Own Whitewheat Sandwich Rounds

Building on the popularity of Nature’s Own Sandwich Rounds, Flowers is introducing a fourth variety to the lineup – Whitewheat Sandwich Rounds. As with all Whitewheat items, the new sandwich rounds offer the nutritional benefits of wheat bread with the milder taste of white. These new rounds have 4 grams of fiber and only 100 calories per serving and are perfect for sandwiches, toast, or mini pizzas. They come in a re-sealable package to lock in the freshness. Cobblestone Mill 100% Whole Wheat Bread

In response to consumer demand for more whole grain bread options, Cobblestone Mill is now offering a 100% whole wheat loaf packed with 16 grams of whole grain in a smaller, 16 oz. size. Blue Bird & Mrs. Freshley’s Chocolate Bells, Chocolate Chip Muffins, & Chocolate Pie

What better way to take great snack cakes and make them better than by teaming up with the number one brand in confections? Flowers has added HERSHEY’S® quality chocolate to three of its delicious snack items. Chocolate Bells, first introduced in early 2010, are moist, creme-filled cakes now made with HERSHEY’S® cocoa and covered in a rich coating. The new mouthwatering chocolate chip muffins are studded with HERSHEY’S® semi-sweet chocolate chips, and the luxurious chocolate filling between the sweet, glazed crust of the Chocolate Pie is now made with HERSHEY’S® cocoa.

All three snacks are available under Flowers’ Blue Bird and Mrs. Freshley’s brands. Blue Bird items are sold through direct–store delivery in a territory that reaches approximately 50% of the U.S. population. Mrs. Freshley’s items are sold nationally through warehouse distribution. Chocolate Bells made with HERSHEY’S® cocoa and Chocolate Chip Muffins made with HERSHEY’S® semi-sweet chocolate chips are available in single-serve two packs and six count individually wrapped multi-packs, while the Chocolate Pie made with HERSHEY’S® cocoa is available in single-serve only.

Shoppers can find all of these new items from Flowers Bakeries in supermarket bread and snack cake aisles and in other retail stores. Suggested retail price range from $2.99 to $3.19, depending on the item.
