Franz Bakery launches new organic division Green Earth Baking

Franz Bakery, a 100+ year-old bakery based out of Portland, Ore., has launched a new USDA certified organic bread line under a new division of the company, Green Earth Baking.

Green Earth Baking is the first eco-friendly bread company in the Northwest that not only produces bread with all natural ingredients, but does so in a way that uses eco-friendly business practices from the time the grains are harvested through delivery to the customer. The creation of Green Earth Baking is a seamless partnership for Franz Family Bakeries who, for nearly 30 years, have been incorporating sustainable practices into its daily operations.

The USDA Organic certified bread line became available on shelves across the Pacific Northwest last month. All breads are baked fresh daily at the Franz Bakery facility in Portland.

The Green Earth Baking facility has taken steps to proactively reduce emissions by a third, invest in clean wind power, reduce waste and filter water prior to baking, proving that there is more to good bread than good ingredients. Green Earth Baking supports the regional economy by partnering with Northwest farmers when available and sourcing ingredients that contribute to the local community.

The Green Earth Baking breadline includes Simply Whole Wheat, 15 Perfect Grains and Wild Oats and Honey. The breads are a good source of fiber and whole grains containing lower sugars and fats, but crafted to retain a hearty and wholesome flavor profile.
