A new survey by Crisco shows pie remains a favorite American dessert and is evolving to fit the taste preferences of the nation.

The survey also shows Americans hosting parties prefer guests to bring pie rather than other desserts, and Americans not only eat pie after dinner, but 66 percent enjoy it after lunch and 59 percent as a midnight snack. More than one-third of Americans have eaten pie for breakfast. Thanksgiving ranks as the most popular pie holiday, with the winter holidays close behind. Apple pie continues to reign as the American favorite, with pumpkin and pecan close behind. Ninety percent of Americans have a specific flavor pie they remember most from childhood, but that doesn't necessarily classify that pie as their favorite. Thirteen percent of respondants remembered lemon meringue as a childhood experience, while only 8 percent listed it as their current favorite. While only 9 percent of survey participants said cherry was their favorite, 26 percent said it would best replace America's classic apple pie. Pumpkin came in second with 24 percent of the vote.
