Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM), Decatur, Ill., named Alain Fredericq director, global business development and sustainability programs, ADM Cocoa. In this newly created position, Fredericq will use his extensive West African and chocolate market experience to align business development and sustainability efforts with ADM Cocoa's goals to expand geographically and deliver higher value to customers. Fredericq joined ADM in 1994 and previously served as director, European Chocolate, and in several Cocoa management roles, including general manager, Africa. He is currently secretary and treasurer of the World Cocoa Foundation and serves on the steering committee of the Sustainable Tree Crops Program.

Douglas Shreves was promoted to president, SunOpta Ingredients Group, Bedford, Mass., replacing Arthur McEvily, who was promoted to the newly created position of vice president, technology and innovation, SunOpta Inc. Shreves joined SunOpta Ingredients as vice president, sales and business development in June 2001. Prior to joining SunOpta, Shreves was vice president of sales at International Flavors and Fragrances.

Patrick Kearney was appointed president, Sethness-Greenleaf Inc., Chicago, following the death of J. Barry McRaith. Kearney has been McRaith's business partner and co-owner for more than 38 years, and involved in corporate strategic planning since the onset of ownership. As a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Michigan Law School, Kearney brings additional expertise in finance. In addition, John Smyth was named general manager. Smyth has been with the company since 1977, serving in various executive capacities. Thomas Schufreider was named director, global sales and marketing. Schufreider also joined the company in 1977, and previously directed North American sales and marketing efforts.

Main Street Ingredients, La Crosse, Wis., promoted Sarah Bartz to quality control manager. Bartz brings more than 25 years of experience to the lab. She received an associate's degree in applied science through Western Wisconsin Technical College. Her first job was in an environmental lab in La Crosse, followed by work in a cheese lab at a dairy cooperative, and then as an analytical chemistry supervisor. Bartz joined Main Street nearly 10 years ago as a lab technician.

Flowers Foods Bakeries Group, Thomasville, Ga., named David Roach president of Flowers Baking Co., Villa Rica, Ga. He succeeds Ty Deese, who died unexpectedly in November. Roach, who previously was vice president, sales and national accounts, Flowers Bakeries Group, will oversee sales and operations of the Villa Rica bakery, which serves markets with baked products in northern Georgia, southeastern Tennessee, southwestern North Carolina and western South Carolina. Roach joined Flowers' Atlanta bakery in 1992 as a route sales person and became director of sales in 1995. He was named regional sales director in 1996; vice president of sales for the Villa Rica bakery in 1999; president of Flowers' Nashville, Tenn. sales operation in 2001 and vice president for the sales and national accounts for the Bakeries Group in 2003. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Georgia Southwestern College, Americus.
